Review: Smallville - 10x04 Homecoming

gif by _onebreath

In all honesty there isn't much I can say about this episode, I simply loved everything about it, I guess my only complain would be that it was too short, 41 minutes was not enough. So, I won't bore you with a play by play of ooohs and aaaahs and aaaaws and I'll try to go straight to the point. This episode was what I had been waiting since the first day I saw the promo for that new show called Smallville, it was everything I thought the finale of the show would be like and it delivered. And it delivered big. Many won't agree with me, but I liked it a lot more than episode 100, which shouldn't surprise anyone because I like the show now more than I ever did, and more than I ever thought I would.

Let's start with what was beyond perfect:

- Erica Durance's performance:
we are in a time when everybody is wondering who will (or should) play Superman and Lois Lane in Zack Snyder's new movie, and here I was, like many other fans, thinking "no one can do it better than Erica". Then Homecoming aired and I found out I was wrong... ERICA CAN DO IT BETTER THAN ERICA. Lois from the future was Lois from the comics in the flesh. Erica's Lois has always been the closest to comic!Lois, but this Lois was just it, before this Erica was the best Lois Lane ever, now she is THE LOIS LANE. There's just no one else, whoever plays Lois in Snyder's movie won't even stand a chance (unless it's Erica, of course).

- Clark from the future:
I may have screamed when he showed up. How can Tom look so hot in such a nerdy outfit? can somebody explain this to me? I have to admit that one of the many many reasons why I didn't like Superman Returns was because of Clark, I think nerdy!Clark is such a pre-crisis thing to do, although with Secret Origins this persona was re-established (which I refuse to accept as the current origin story, Birthright FOR THE WIN), but I don't like it. Clark Kent shouldn't be that person, he should be cool but low key. Anyway, Tom made it work, perfectly, and I didn't think I was going to love it as much as I did, but it was the way he talked, the way he stood there, I loved him, he's my Clark Kent forever and ever and ever, and I want to see him in a scene with future!Lois.

- Clois: that last scene took my breath away. I knew it was coming, the second she stood on his feet I thought "he's going to fly" and then they did. The "I love you" exchange was so beautiful, the way he was all "get over here" and she was babbling and... *sigh*. And in the future... HOW HOT WAS THAT!! "you make me crazy" almost made ME crazy. And Lois knowing everything, absolutely everything about him (even her own trip to the future, which I thought was going to be buried much like Jimmy's death) showed why they are perfect, simply perfect. I loved loved loved the part where Lois is checking for kryptonite poisoning and her babble about the different kinds of K. I NEED to read a fic about what happened with the Black Kryptonite, NOW!! damn, I love this people.
Another part I truly loved was when Lois told Clark she felt like she belonged in Smallville High, that it had been an important part of her life, even though back then she complained all the time and, aparently, only showed up 5 out of 23 days. And then she says "you put the Smallville in Smallville... Smallville", which made it all much more adorable, because I felt like she was saying she actually belong with him.

- The hotness: just because Clois deserves two points

- Pararells, flashbacks and easter eggs: there were so many, Jimmy as the photographer in that newspaper with the Superman headline, Alicia's file on the crazy woman's desk, the dance in the barn, the helicopter catching (Superman movies and Exposed), even Lois stepping on Clark's feet and floating was a little callback to Superman Returns. Seeing young Lana and Chloe, cute mumbling Clark (and noticing how much mr Welling has change in 10 years), the Bug Boy... and I'm sure I'm missing a million more, but all of them made this episode pretty special.

Now what I didn't fully loved (which just means it made me go umf):
- I understand Lois is head over heels in love with Clark, I also understand that when she loves, she loves with everything she has, but I wasn't really happy with her "I put my feet under yours" thing. What the hell was that? who says that? I don't know, I just thought it was weird.
- I missed Pete, Lana and Chloe were mentioned and remembered, but no one mentioned Pete, he was important!
- Punchable cupcake Meg. I wanted to bang her head against the table when she told Lois she was the moth, not the flame. Bitch.
- Crazy counselor lady. What was she about? what was she doing there? at first I thought she was going to be more important, then it was just a way to introduce Brainiac
- Lois has the same phone in 2017!! and the computers are so 2010!! come on people, technology will evolve in 7 years!

The crazy counsellor lady was a throwback to the way the FotW were usually introduced in the earlier seasons, but Brainiac interferred because he had more important things for Clark to worry about. I hope that helps.

Anyway I agree with just about everything else. This episodewas Love. A love letter to Clark and to the true fans that watch for Clark.

That makes sense, I thought it was totally random.

Exactly, this is the show that I love. And I love that, finally, Clark is the main character here, and they are doing it perfectly.

I was so oooooh and awww and ahhhhh in this last episode!!
Reading this made re feeling it again. I have to watch it again!! It's never enough !!!
Gosh, I was laughing like a crazy, when Clark was saving Lois in the Helicopter scene. She punched the pilote with her elbow protecting her man's secret. That was amazing, like she was meant to do this. She was so perfect!!!!!
So Jimmy Olsen is still alive ???

When he heard the helicopter going down I told my wife "This is it he is gonna fly!!". But I liked the way they did it it should have remained a Christopher Reeve moment. The way he floated at the end after they said I love you it was like she was just he always needed all along. I agree it was the culmination of 10 years of watching.
